If you’re going to attend a festival of food this summer, I recommend the 18th Avenue feast in Brooklyn. At the end of August each year they close down 18th Avenue in Bensonhurst for the Santa Rosalia Festival, possibly the best feast in the five boroughs. Every Italalian-American in the neighborhood comes out to enjoy the most delicious sausage and peppers, pizza, marzipan fruit, baked clams, linguine with mussels, panelles, zeppoles (my favorite!!), and vanilla or chocolate cannoli’s.

Trattorias in the neighborhood display their best dishes in front of their shops, while an Italian band fills the air with both traditional and pop Italian songs. You’ll have a lot more elbow room than the San Janeiro Feast in NYC where it’s hard to breathe let alone chomp down a bag of zeppoles….

I’ll post an update when they announce the date, it’s usually end of August or early September……
