I’ve been checking out some new music lately, a few bands suggested by Mikey.. and a few that I’m listening to in anticipation of the All Points West concert at Liberty State Park in August…

three of the albums that I picked up recently are damn good..

thenational1.jpg…after listening for a few months now, The National’s “Boxer” is without a doubt one of my all time favorite albums. A bit on the slow side, a rock group with sort of a folk touch, a baritone singer with tranquil yet ironic lyrics, a bit dark yet full of soul and I probably listened to it 200 times already..

spoon.jpg Spoon’s Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga… is fun to listen to, has good beats to jog or rollerblade to.. a great rock and roll band, you can’t help but want to jump up and dance, the rhythm is incredible.. horns, pianos, tambourines, and good guitar… and each track is different from the next which is unusual for an album.. it’s hard to get songs from Spoon out of your head after listening to them a few times..

ahashakeheartbreak.jpg
Aha Shake Heartbreak by Kings of Leon is really funky, the vocals are unusual, and hard to understand, but also hypnotic.. said to be something between garage rock, English blues, and sixties psychedelia… very catchy songs and musically quite complex, once you get passed the fact that the lead singer’s voice is basically unintelligible, it really doesn’t matter, the music is so good, pure rock and roll. They will be great to see at Liberty State Park this summer, from what I hear they’re very entertaining when playing at a live venue.
