Stockholm

I bounced around northern Europe in July with Anthony DeRosa, better known as Soup. It was one of those trips of a lifetime, exploring 7 cities in 15 days, and we got along real well for two people spending so much time together. It was a good match, the geek in both of us demanded our computers when not out exploring, and we spent more than enough time on the Internet, tending to our tumblrs, using e-mail, and checking on recent happenings back at home.

We started the incredible journey in Stockholm at a 5 star hotel, which I mention only to give you an idea of the variety of accommodations we chose. With a hostel in Oslo, since the average hotel room there was $500 a night, to the beach motel a few miles out of Copenhagen, idea being that we’d be able to experience different kinds of living, and when in Denmark to get away from the craziness of the city and enjoy a beach feel. It didn’t turn out as hoped at that beachfront property, by the way, but I’ll leave that story for a future entry.

Stockholm was fun, a happy city, surrounded by water.. we took advantage of a hop on hop off boat, allowing us to explore the 12 closest islands to the center of the city. I’m all about the double decker bus tour to see the hot spots of a city, so it was even better toting around in a boat, on a sunny day… bopping into museums, checking out the scenery from some of the islands.. eating really good food..

entry from Soup’s Tumblr while we were there:

A few things before I head out for the day…

* Everyone is beautiful here.
* There’s blackjack at nearly every bar on the streets here, including the bar literally steps from our room on the 9th floor, which has an amazing view of the city.
* Speaking of blackjack, I won 260 kroner playing it last night, which is roughly 40 bucks.
* It gets cold here at night, I didn’t pack enough warm clothes, may need to pick some up.
* People are really nice here, well mannered, sure ain’t NYC.
* Lots of bike paths. Forget the cars, you better look both ways for the bikes or get your ass run over.
* The crosswalk signals have really loud clocks in them you can hear click clacking.
* Water is everywhere, canals make the city look beautiful.
* I’m stahvin, time for a late breakfast.
