My friend Dan came to party with us in Stockholm on night #3 and we partied well past the sunrise, (which isn’t much considering it’s up at 3:30am). The following morning Dan drove us 150 miles or so to his home town of Örebro where we stayed at his Mother’s beautiful home while she was away at their summer cottage.
It was really incredible of them to open their home up to us, and the hospitality given to us by Dan and his wife Ulrika was unmatched, and it will never be forgotten.
I loved the feeling of being in the middle of Sweden, with no more than a big backpack, hanging with good friends. We chilled in the backyard at night, watching American TV, connected to Soup’s Slingbox back at home… Dan couldn’t believe we were capable of doing that. and of all night’s, a close winning game between the Yankees and Red Sox… Dan is a huge fan of the Yankees and of course they don’t air many games here for him…
some words from Soup’s tumblr while we were there -
“We are off to Norway in the morning. Had such a great time here in Sweden, mostly thanks to the hospitality of Marc’s friend Dan, who I befriended while I was here. A million thanks to Dan, his lovely wife Ulrika and their adorable son Max. Their kindness for two wandering Americans was incredible. Many photos of our time here together to come.
We met up with Dan in Stockholm and we had a great night there before heading to his home in Orebro. We stayed in his mother’s beautiful home there last night and today Dan took us to the highest point in Orebru. Marc and I have amazing pictures from there to share soon. Ulrika prepared an authentic home cooked swedish meal for us tonight, we started with fish she called seal, that made Marc and I kind of sad, since we both love Flipper. We were relieved to find out seal was swedish for some completely different fish with far less personality. Main course was swedish meatballs, a delicious cucumber salad, and boiled potatoes.
I played dinosaurs and videogames with Max, tossed the ball around with their chiuaua named Dorito, who looks a lot like Sarah’s doggy and just felt awesome having the opportunity to spend two days in Sweden with this wonderful family.
Right now, Marc and I are sitting in the backyard of Dan’s moms house, having a smoke and enjoying the last night here in Sweden, listening to the rain under the comfort of the covered corner of the patio. Life is good, really good.”
